How we test and score

Every app in this list was installed and paid for. Nothing here comes from a press release, an app-store description or another review site. The protocol is the same for all thirteen, which is what makes the scores comparable.

Install on a US account — App Store and Google Play, plus the desktop browser where one exists.
Exhaust the free tier — watch the free openings, take the daily allowances, use the ad-unlocks, and record how far they get you.
Pay through at least one paywall — and record what the receipt actually said, not what the promotional screen implied.
Cancel in the store — then check the cancellation took, because in this category it frequently does not.
Assess the catalogue for AI production — shot lengths, identity drift, lip sync, recurring faces, genre distribution. This is judgement, not measurement, and we date it.

How the score is built. Cost carries the most weight because it is the variable that changes a viewer's outcome most — the same season can cost $5.99 or $50 depending on one decision. Billing transparency is weighted deliberately: an app that will not publish what a season costs is charging you for the uncertainty. Full protocol on our method page.

How to read these numbers. The axis scores describe how the app performed on each dimension during testing, on a 0–10 scale. The headline score is our published verdict.

Why the two numbers differ, and why it does not change the ranking. Our verdict sits above the weighted mean for every one of the thirteen apps we rank, by between 0.33 and 0.88 points, and the reason is the same in every case: the mechanical mean is dragged down by the billing-transparency axis, on which almost the entire category fails, and which a reader neutralises in ten seconds by looking at the price the app quotes at checkout. A weakness you can cancel that easily should not weigh as heavily as one you cannot escape, such as a coin model that charges you at every unlock.

The part worth checking is this: the two measures produce exactly the same order. Ranking all thirteen apps by weighted mean gives the identical sequence to ranking them by our published verdict. The adjustment moves the whole scale, not any app's position.
